CalorieGenius (“CalorieGenius,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we collect it, how we use it, who we share it with, and your choices.

By using CalorieGenius, you agree to this Privacy Policy.

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to the CalorieGenius mobile app, our website at https://caloriegenius.app, and related services.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information in the following categories.

A. Information you provide directly

  • Account information, such as name, email address, and sign-in method
  • Profile information, such as gender, weight, height, unit preferences, calorie goals, and other settings you enter
  • Nutrition and activity entries you create, including food logs, exercise logs, and related notes
  • Messages or support requests you send to us

B. Information collected from device features (with your permission)

  • Camera/photos: food images you capture or select for analysis
  • Microphone/audio: voice recordings used for AI transcription when you use voice input
  • Health data (Apple HealthKit): step-related data and related calorie estimates, only if you grant Health permissions in iOS

C. AI feature content

When you use AI features and provide consent, we may process:

  • Text prompts you type
  • Food photos you submit for analysis
  • Voice recordings and/or transcription input
  • Profile values needed to improve exercise and calorie estimates (for example: weight, height, gender, and units)
  • AI outputs returned to you (such as calorie/macronutrient estimates and assistant responses)

D. Automatically collected information

  • App usage and analytics events (for example, feature usage, screen views, and performance signals)
  • Device/app technical data such as app version, OS version, and identifiers needed for service reliability and fraud prevention

E. Purchase and subscription data

  • Subscription status and entitlement information from Apple’s in-app purchase systems
  • We do not receive your full payment card number

3. How We Collect Information

We collect information:

  • Directly from you when you create an account, fill profile fields, log food/exercise, or contact support
  • Automatically through SDKs and backend services used to operate the app
  • From device permissions (camera, microphone, HealthKit) only after you grant permission
  • From authentication providers (for example, Sign in with Apple or Google) when you choose those methods

4. How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • Provide core app functionality (account, syncing, calorie tracking, logs, progress)
  • Personalize estimates and recommendations based on your profile and entries
  • Power AI features such as food analysis, calorie/macro estimates, coaching, and transcription
  • Maintain app security, reliability, and abuse prevention
  • Measure performance and improve product quality
  • Provide customer support
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms

5. AI Data Sharing and Consent

CalorieGenius includes optional AI features that use a third-party AI provider.

Before CalorieGenius sends personal data to OpenAI for AI processing, the app asks for your permission via an in-app prompt.

The prompt discloses:

  • What data is sent
  • Who receives it (OpenAI, L.L.C.)
  • That data is sent only after your permission

If you do not grant permission, AI features remain unavailable and your AI input data is not sent to OpenAI.

You can change this setting at any time in the app under Settings > AI Privacy by toggling AI data sharing on or off.

6. Who We Share Information With

We may share information with these categories of recipients, only as needed:

  • Service providers and infrastructure partners (cloud, auth, storage, analytics, notifications)
  • AI provider: OpenAI, L.L.C. (only with your consent)
  • Authentication providers (Apple, Google)
  • Advertising/measurement providers (where applicable and permitted)
  • Payment platforms (Apple)
  • Legal authorities when required
  • Successor entities (merger/acquisition cases)

We do not sell your personal information.

7. Data Retention

We retain personal data as long as necessary to:

  • Provide the service
  • Maintain your account
  • Comply with legal obligations
  • Resolve disputes

When no longer needed, data is deleted or anonymized.

8. Data Security

We use reasonable safeguards to protect your data. No system is 100% secure, but access is restricted to authorized parties.

9. International Data Transfers

Your data may be processed in other countries. We apply appropriate legal safeguards where required.

10. Your Choices and Rights

You may have rights to access, correct, or delete your data.

You can:

  • Update your profile
  • Toggle AI data sharing
  • Manage permissions in iOS Settings
  • Manage notifications
  • Delete your account (if available)

11. Children’s Privacy

CalorieGenius is not intended for children under 13. If data from a child is identified, we will delete it.

We are not responsible for third-party privacy practices.

We may update this policy. Changes will be posted here with a new “Last updated” date.
